The Yamaha GX-1 is basically 36 more or less identical monophonic synths (voice cards) arranged in various logical groups combined into 4 physical ranks. Each rank is controlled by various inputs such as keyboards, levers, modulation generators etc.
The Solo rank consists of a single voice card. The Upper rank consists of 2 layered 8-voice synths, Upper I and Upper II, using a total of 16 voice cards. The 2 synths of the Upper rank can have completely different sound settings and can be detuned against each other. The Lower rank is similar in fashion to the Upper rank. The Pedal rank consists of 3 layered 1-voice synths, Pedal I, Pedal II and Pedal II', using a total of 3 voice cards. The 3 synths of the Pedal rank can be detuned against each other, while only the I & II parts can have different sound settings.
Each voice card contains a VCO and a wave shaper generating saw, saw thru a side chain bandpass filter (25Hz-25kHz 6dB/oct Q=5), sine, pulse, pulse thru a side chain high pass filter (25Hz-25kHz 12dB/oct Q=5) and triangle 2xf.
This adjustable mix, together with noise from a global generator, is then routed through the main filters: high pass (25Hz-25kHz 12dB/oct Q=1-15) and then low pass (25Hz-25kHz 12dB/oct Q=1-15).
The filter topology in the GX-1 and its siblings (C)SY-1/2 is known as Sallen-Key and they all use current controlled impedance elements (diode rings) for external control of the filter frequency and the resonance.
Each voice card has its own envelope generator for the main filters, as well as an envelope generator for the final VCA. All but the Solo rank voice card has a selectable pitch envelope generator with fixed speed and depth.
All of the major building blocks (VCOs/WSCs/VCFs/EGs) of the voice cards are physically made up of discrete components mounted on small circuit boards that are encapsulated in epoxy resin.
There is one global LFO for all 36 voice cards in the machine with fixed speed, waveform and amount for the PWM - this can be activated separately for each sound in Solo, Upper I, Upper II, Lower I, Lower II, Pedal I and Pedal II.
There is one LFO with selectable speed, amount, waveform and destination for each of the Solo, Upper and Lower parts.
The speed, amount and destination for the Solo LFO can also be controlled from the Solo keyboard aftertouch.
The speed, amount and destination for the Upper, Lower or Upper+Lower LFOs can also be controlled from the Knee controller.
The speed for the Upper, Lower or Upper+Lower LFOs can also be controlled from the Ribbon and the Solo keyboard pitch.
In addition to the normal LFOs, the Solo rank features an extra S/H assignable to VCF and VCO, a ring modulator with saw+variable noise color and selectable keyboard tracking, an adjustable pitch envelope generator as well as portamento.
The Upper rank features portamento as well as additional noise or random modulation depending on the revision of the GX-1.
The Lower rank features random modulation depending on the revision of the GX-1.
The monophonic Solo keyboard has 3 sensors:
KBD Velocity (1st Touch Response) modulation assignable to attack time and initial pitch.
KBD Aftertouch (2nd Touch Response) modulation assignable to VCO, VCF f and VCA as well as LFO speed and LFO VCO/VCF f/VCA modulation amount.
KBD Vibrato (3rd Touch Response) modulation assignable to VCO, VCF f and VCF Q.
The polyphonic Upper keyboard has 1 common sensor for all 8+8 voices:
KBD Vibrato (Touch Response) modulation assignable to VCO, VCF f and VCF Q.
The polyphonic Lower keyboard and the monophonic Pedals have no sensors.
Kort jämförelse mellan VCFs:

The filter topology in the Yamaha GX-1 and its siblings (C)SY-1/2 is known as Sallen-Key, and they use current controlled impedance elements (diode rings) for external control of the filter frequency and the resonance. The filters (NE10400/NE10500/NE11000) are physically made up of discrete components mounted on small circuit boards that are encapsulated in epoxy resin.
The Minikorg 700 uses the same kind of topology and similar small circuit boards encapsulated in epoxy resin (TS201012). This filter does only have one current controlled impedance element - for external control of the filter frequency. The same basic single diode ring design is also used in the Korg MS-50 filter.
The Sallen-Key topology is also used in the filter (KORG35) found in, among other things, the earlier versions of the Korg MS-n0 series - but here the variable impedance elements controlling the filter frequency are comprised of transistors working in reverse saturation mode.
The filter topology used in the Yamaha CS-n0 series is known as State Variable Filter and the filters are made up of Yamaha custom ICs (IG00156).
Kort jämförelse mellan VCOs/WSCs/VCFs/EGs:

The Yamaha CS-series contains the following custom Yamaha audio ICs:
iG 0 01 50 VCO-II
iG 0 01 51 VCA

iG 0 01 53 VCO-III
iG 0 01 56 VCF
iG 0 01 58 W.S.C
iG 0 01 59 VCA-EG
They are the functional equivalents of the epoxy-resin filled and pre-calibrated sub modules made up of discrete components found in the Yamaha (C)SY-1/2 | GX-1:

Tack för den fantastiskt detaljerade sammanställningen för GX-1This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member.
This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member.
Här presenteras i alla fall en GX-1:a i något slags musikprogram hos ORF. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member.
