Hello,
the problem is the pulse width of the sync pulses. In a very early update,
this was already optimated to hook up to a 303. I tested it with an orginal
303 and it works FINE all the time! The pulse width of the XBase sync pulses
is 5 ms minimum. But only if the XBase itself is in sync to a master via
midi clock! Otherwise (when XBase is master) the duty cycle is 50%
everytime! This is due to the conversion of 24ppq midi clock to 24
clocks/beat. There has to be a transient with a time constant at each
midi tick. This cannot be changed in future with the XBase.
In the 808, there is a capacitor in the pulse line in order to filter
glitches. This capacitor causes some clock pulses to drop simply.
After removing this capacitor, which does not affect the 808 at all, it
syncs fine. The capacitor is C8 (10nF) on the mainboard. If it helps...
Well, I was astonished a bit that so many people do still use the din
sync option. This was primary thought only as a feature for 303 freaks. We
only had a very very few people in Europe reporting of 808 sync problems.
Hope I could help you...
