Dear people of Thomann,
Please find included a Behringer Xenyx 1204 FX mixer that I’d like to return for warranty repairs, replacement or refund. This particular item caused me a lot of stress, headaches and emotional suffering on my recent tour of Germany where new problems would pop up at soundcheck every night, before I could find a replacement. (This is where we could argue whether or not I bought the wrong gear for my particular application (ie. something “sturdy and operational” for “actual use in a live music environment”) but let’s not go down that route.) All other aspects of Germany were a blast though so thanks for that!
The mixer has been used live on stage but has travelled in a padded hard-case. As you can see the exterior shows no sign of being dropped, kicked, drenched in beer or otherwise unreasonable abused. In short - I’ve been kind to it. I like my stuff.
My customer number is XXX, the order number is XXX and customer care ticket was XXX. If you’re into digits.
So what is non-operational about this mixer?
- Mono channel 3 is dead. It can’t be sent to neither Main output or Alt 3-4. PFL listening works though.
- Stereo 5-6 is pretty funky - the normalling seems to not work which means plugging in a stereo source usually only results in sound from only one side. Also, the fader bleeds at like -20 db. Try plugging something into the right input and turn the fader all the way down, listen to the very audible signal in the left channel.
- Monitoring Alt 3-4 and Main doesn’t work/drops out. Testing it today it cuts in and out with some cool scratchy noises. On tour it was dead. As in “if I press the Main-button the mixer sends a really nasty electrical spike to my headphones, risking damaging them”.
- Aux 2/FX-send did not work before but seems to have come alive now. Perhaps it will be dead again by the time the mixer reaches you. I don’t know really, view it as an added bonus.
All in all I do not feel that this mixer lives up to the Behringer promise of “high-quality components and exceptionally rugged construction ensur[ing] long life”.
